MetGen is offering custom development of higher performance specialty enzymes for cleantech industry. We focus on accelerating discovery or/and improving target proteins properties. Our services vary from site specific mutagenesis design, combinatorial DNA libraries construction to library screening and recombinant enzyme assay with substrate of choice. MetGen is building the range of the enzymes to solve critical energy efficiency issues that address needs in two key markets: industrial processes and biofuels.
MetGen technology is versatile and applicable to the range of enzyme and industrial applications. At the moment, MetGen focuses on industrial enzymes called Laccases. Laccases are oxidoreductases belonging to the multinuclear copper-containing oxidases. Interest in these essentially 'ecofriendly' enzymes has grown significantly in recent years: their uses span from the textile to the pulp and paper industries, and from food applications to bioremediation processes. Laccases also have uses in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical and nanotechnological sectors. These oxidase enzymes catalyse substrates at the expense of molecular oxygen and produce water as the only by-product.
The fungal laccases, most widely used currently because of the high redox potential, present various drawbacks: they are expensive to produce, grow slowly and are endogenously expressed at very low concentrations. MetGen addresses challenges in laccase application by blending the structural and functional features of the efficient fungal laccases into robust bacterial proteins to produce affordable and efficient enzymes.

• Biomass treatment for energy saving in pulp & paper industry
• Biomass treatment for extracting specialized chemicals from cellulosic biomass
• Increasing yield of bioethanol production from cellulosic waste for biofuel industry
• Removing phenolic compounds from waste waters
MetGen’s proprietary technology provides a significant advantage over existing approaches in regard to selectivity, productivity and the eventually cost of desired industrial enzymes or microorganisms. Our technology is proven, versatile and superior. MetGen technology was successfully tested for various application. We have already achieved visible success in creating biotransformation technology and the synthesis of unique compounds and are looking forward to generalizing and combining the knowledge gained in those areas and applying it to growing markets.
