Hiab solution provide better waste management and savings of 30-50%

Hiab Load Handling Equipment Co. is a sales company of Cargotec, the world leader in load handling and transfer transport solutions. Hiab cooperated with Molok Oy on a pilot project that sums up the core idea of cleantech: reducing the environmental burden and saving money.

“Waste that was previously stored in open pits is now kept in Molok’s deep collection bins. This makes our compacting containers much more efficient and allows us to achieve a ten-fold improvement in the logistics efficiency of our transport vehicles. Combined savings are in the area of 30-50%,” explains Jukka Loikala, Cargotec’s Director of Environmental Segment, as he lists the benefits.

Interest in hygienic and environmentally friendly waste collection is increasing in Asia. The rising standard of living in Asia is also contributing to the quality requirements for waste management.

“Waste collection currently accounts for 80-90% of the costs of waste management. By saving in collection costs, we can increase the waste management share to 25-30%,” says Jukka by way of example.

Growth with respect for local culture

Cargotec is conducting similar pilot projects in several Asian cities. All business takes the local culture and the societal significance of waste management into consideration.

”In China, waste management has a huge employment impact. Waste is collected according to the door-to-door principle. We don’t want to affect these jobs in initial collection. We want to bring Western technology to China with respect for the local culture,” emphasizes Jukka.
