AkkuSer

As the number of wireless devices in the world is increasing at a rapid pace, the number of rechargeable batteries powering the devices is also increasing. This means that there is a rising volume of hazardous waste to process. Businesses, universities and other organizations in the Oulu region are world leaders in wireless technology. Now a new technology has been developed in the region whereby disposable batteries and rechargeable dry-cell batteries can be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

Developed by AkkuSer Ltd and known as Dry Technology, the method allows various new products to be made with the materials used in batteries without a need for chemicals, heat or incineration.

Currently AkkuSer processes most of the rechargeable batteries and battery waste generated in Finland and Estonia, half of that in Norway and Sweden. AkkuSer's technology is globally unique and the company has the capacity to accept waste from other countries and also to export its methods.
