Measuring, analysis and automation

Clean technologies and consulting services under this sector are one of the key allies in combating climate change. For example wider applying ICT, automation and advanced control to global industry and infrastructure would reduce emissions as much as 15 percent by 2020, according to a report from The Climate Group and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative.

The roots of Finnish expertise of automation, measuring and analysis of systems lie as far as 1950s when process industry started to use these technologies to gain international competitiveness.

Finland has also invested heavily in ICT since 1980s and it has been ranked many times first or in the top 10 in the terms of technology usage by its citizens, businesses and the government (Networked Readiness Index, NRI). The ICT investments lifted Finland up from 1990s' deep recession and supported the Finnish ICT cluster to become the world leader for example in mobile telephony.
