Finnish cleantech companies see huge potential in Abu Dhabi and Masdar
Finpro will open an office in Masdar City in 2011
Abu Dhabi, January 18, 2010 - Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Mauri Pekkarinen, and Finnish cleantech companies on the topic “Finnish cleantech solutions for United Arab Emirates - Sustainable Energy and Green Construction in focus” at the first day of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi on January 18.United Arab Emirates is the fourth most important trade partner for Finland outside of Europe. Many Finnish cleantech companies are already present in the Arab Emirates market. However, many promising co-operation areas between Finland and Arab Emirates still remain untapped.
The target of Masdar Initiative, to turn Abu Dhabi into the Silicon Valley of clean technology, makes it a very attractive and desired partner for Finnish cleantech companies. Masdar will be acting as a hub for Finnish cleantech expertise in Middle East.
Hence, Finpro, association promoting internationalization of Finnish companies worldwide, will open an office in Masdar City in 2011. “Masdar – Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company is seing this as very important strategic co-operation for Abu Dhabi and Finnish cleantech business developments”, says Ryan Thompkins, Associate, Business Development. Finnish companies are seeking for cleantech business opportunities with local partners in United Arab Emirates. These potential co-operation areas include sustainable energy and construction, energy efficiency, waste management, production of clean water and water recycling and scientific expertise.
The Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Mr. Mauri Pekkarinen visited Abu Dhabi with a Finnish business delegation consisting of top Finnish cleantech companies such as Fortum, Glaston, Halton, Neste Oil, Outotec, Pöyry and Tana. The visit aimed to demonstrate commitment and interest to further develop economic and commersial relations with the UAE.
