Cleantech Finland at Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2010

Cleantech Finland attended the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit on February 5th – 7th 2010. The Summit focused on advancing the cause of sustainable development. The heading “Beyond Copenhagen: New Pathways to sustainable development” set the direction for discussion topics during the four days. Heads of states, opinion leaders, company representatives and climate change expert discussed various aspects on the topic: ranging from national actions and responsibilities questions regarding capacity enhancements, including access to technology and finance.

Cleantech Finland and Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland were the premier partners of the event. Finnish expertise was visibly present at the venue and even more so in the speeches held by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and Esko Aho, Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Responsibility, Nokia.

Cleantech Finland Press Event

On Friday February 5th Cleantech Finland organized a press event at the DSDS venue Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. In his opening speech Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen emphasized the great potential for cooperation in the cleantech sector between Finland and India. Additionally, he pointed out that both parties should fully utilize the opportunity to create cooperation for sustainable, energy efficient solutions.

Mr Sakari Tamminen, President and CEO of Rautaruukki Corporation represented the entire Finnish Business Delegation that consisted of Cargotec, Kemira, Nokia Siemens Network, Oilon International, Outotec, Vaisala and Wärtsilä. In his speech he stated that deployment of low-carbon, material and energy-efficient technologies are essential to address our environmental challenges. He pointed out that the response of Finnish companies to climate and energy challenges is two-fold: On the one hand, companies have taken and are actively taking measures to reduce their own emissions. On the other hand, Finnish companies provide global solutions for other countries to help them reduce their own emissions.

Santtu Hulkkonen, Executive Director of Cleantech Finland offered an overview of Cleantech markets and the areas where Finnish and Indian companies could co-operate. He was followed by presentations by Mr Debashish Mazumdar (Wärtsilä), Mr Otto von Ubisch (Pöyry) and Mr Kjell Forsén (Vaisala).

Honourable guests visited the Cleantech Finland Pavilion at the ICCE inauguration on February 4th

The International Climate Change Exhibition (ICCE) was organized for the third consecutive year around Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2010. Companies such as Nokia, Oilon, Outotec, Pöyry, Vaisala and Waterix were present at the Cleantech Finland pavilion.

The inauguration of the ICCE attracted high-level guests and Cleantech Finland pavilion was visited by the Honourable Indian Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, the Director-General of TERI Dr R K Pachauri and Indian bollywood movie star Shilpa Shetty.
